Importing Pets to Hong Kong

1. Implantation of microchip

All imported pets must be microchipped in accordance with ISO or AVID standards. The microchip number must be readable at every inspection and properly recorded on all documents.

• If the chip number does not match the documentation, the pet may face the risk of being quarantined or returned to its country of origin.

• After arriving in Hong Kong, if the dog does not have an AVID chip, it needs to be re-implanted and vaccinated against rabies in order to apply for a dog license.

2. Rabies vaccine

Cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days but no more than 1 year before export, and the pets must be at least 90 days old at the time of vaccination.

• The original rabies vaccination certificate must be kept with your pet.

3. Other vaccines

Cats and dogs entering Hong Kong need to be vaccinated with the following vaccines, which must be completed at least 14 days but no more than 1 year before export:

• Cats: FVRCP (feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia)

• Dogs: DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza)

4. Import license

All imported cats and dogs must apply for an import permit in advance.

• The permit application takes at least 5 working days and is valid for 6 months.

5. Health certificate

Your pet must be inspected and have a health certificate signed by a recognized veterinarian 10 to 14 days before departure.

• The document must be the Hong Kong designated version and officially authenticated.

• Our team can assist with final inspections, documentation preparation and certification processes.

• Age restriction: Pets must be 5 months old or older. Pets that are more than 4 weeks pregnant are not allowed to be imported.

• Prohibited breeds: Certain aggressive dog breeds and their hybrids are prohibited from import, such as pit bulls, Donkey Kong, etc.

• Isolation requirements: As long as the pet meets all regulations, it does not need to be isolated; if not, it may be isolated or deported.
